Blue whales are the largest animals in the world. They can be as long as 30 meters (about 100 ft) long. This makes them ideal for using as a unit of measurement (e.g. "The house we are looking for is 50 blue whales away on Los Robles"). Contrary to popular belief, they are not as long as 10 square blocks.
