Electrooptic Effect

A change in a material's refractive index due to the application of a DC electric field. Electrooptic modulators are very common devices in optoelectronic systems. Materials such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) and lithium niobate exhibit strong electrooptic coefficients.
