Nanophotonics

Nanophotonics more or less refers to the study of light when it is confined to wavelength-scale dimensions. Since wavelength-scale is typically a few hundred nanometers for most materials and frequencies of interest, the term microphotonics is often interchangeably used (however, funding agencies seem to prefer the term 'nano').
